Yes. Ultralight Aeroplanes must be registered with Transport Canada before being flown.
To register an aircraft the owner of the aircraft must be 16 years of age, a Canadian resident or a permanent resident.
Required information to register a Basic Ultralight with Transport Canada:
– Proof of Identity
– Aircraft ID information (picture of the identification plate)
– Proof of custody and control (bill of sale)
– Minimum useful load calculation
– Registration fee ($110.00 as of May.2025)

Before you apply to register an advanced ultra-light aeroplane, make sure your aircraft is on the listing of models eligible to be registered as advanced ultra-light Aeroplanes (AULA)

Required information to register a Advanced Ultralight not previously registered with Transport Canada:
– All of the items listed above when registering a Basic Ultralight, Plus:
– Statement of Conformity signed by the manufacturer.

– All of the items listed above when registering a Basic Ultralight, Plus:
– Fit For Flight Form signed by both the buyer and the seller.
