Description
1998 Titan Tornado II Advanced Ultralight. 1100 hrs+ and counting.
Jabiru 2200 with less than 10 hours after top overhaul by Arion Aircraft (The Jabiru NA representative). XCOM radio, Becker transponder, GRT EIS. New lexan.
The Tornado is a reliable, easy to fly and land aircraft. It is simple, easy to inspect and maintain with all systems easily accessible (no crawling under dashes). The wing is easy to remove and put on as it is one piece and there are no struts. It is mostly metal with some fabric on the empennage control surfaces and under the engine behind the cabin. The wingspan is only 24’. The visibility is extremely good from the pilot seat.
The engine is a Jabiru 2200 80 hp 4-stroke engine. This is an earlier solid lifter version that does not suffer from the problems with later hydraulic lifters that gave Jabiru a less-than-great reputation in some circles.
There are only two drawbacks to the Tornado as far as I am concerned. Although it is a two-seater aircraft, most people taller than 5’6” will find it tight in the back. It is also noisy, not something unique to this model, but it should be mentioned.
I have owned this aircraft since 2008 and I would keep it but I am losing my hangar this summer so it has to go.
