Information about the Ultralight Pilots Association of Canada

Who We are

The Ultralight Pilots Association of Canada (UPAC) is the national voice for ultralight aviation in Canada. We are a community of aviation enthusiasts from seasoned pilots to new students and manufacturers to maintainers, who are united by our passion for flight.

UPAC is grassroots, volunteer-driven organization that thrives through the energy and involvement of its members. The organization is run by an elected Board of Directors who volunteer their time and energy on your behalf.

Whether you fly for the thrill, the view, or the adventure, UPAC is here to support your journey.

What We Do

Our mission is to promote and protect the rights and privileges of Canadian ultralight pilots. We do this by advocating for and participating in government discussions; developing educational resources for pilots, instructors, builders and maintainers; encouraging participation in recreational aviation; collaborating with local ultralight squadrons and promoting safety. We work to ensure that ultralight flying remains a vibrant and accessible part of Canada’s aviation culture through events, publications, mentorship, and representation.

Your UPAC membership gives you access to a network of individuals with expertise in building, flying and maintaining ultralights as well as the regulations affecting them. UPAC organizes Canada’s largest gathering of ultralight pilots and aircraft at our annual National Convention in August. UPAC also issues a monthly publication called Light Flight, which provides updates on current issues, educational information, the latest developments in ultralight building, member stories and classified ads.

UPAC is also the custodian of the Design Standards for Advanced Ultra-light Aeroplanes that were developed by the Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association of Canada (LAMAC).

Ultralight pilots enjoy significant freedom in Canadian aviation, and together, we are committed to preserving that freedom. The more support we get from the ultralight community, the more effective we can be. Yearly membership is $50 ($70 for a family) and includes 12 months of Light Flight, our monthly ultralight publication. Join today to help us help you!
